Holmwood House is a quaint bed and breakfast located in a 19th century building close to one of the most scenic squares in York, England.

The city walls are only 10 minutes walk away.

The National Railway Museum, Minster, Jorvik Viking Centre, the Shambles and many other attractions are within easy walking distance. The famous Knavesmire (York’s racecourse), which attracts 350,000 race-goers per year, is also close to Holmwood House.

We arrived in York via train and it took about 15 minutes for us to walk to Holmwood House with our luggage.

There are a variety of room choices and no two rooms are alike.

There are no elevators, but Holmwood House offers 3 rooms at ground level and one at garden level.

We had a lovely room on the top (4th) floor, which offered incredible views of the Minster.

As mentioned earlier, the house dates back to the 19th century and the hosts have done an excellent job keeping up with its original charm.

There is a cozy sitting room in which guests are invited to relax and browse through books and information about the surrounding area.

We sat down here when the WiFi would occasionally not reach all the way up the 4th floor.

The full English breakfast, which was included in the room rate, was one of the many highlights of our stay at Holmwood House.

Not only was there fruit and fruit juices, along with cereals and their special muesli (full of fruit and nuts)…

… guests are able to order hot breakfast including a wide selection of choices including eggs, meats, kippers, hot croissants, toast, and more.

After a full breakfast and a day of exploring the beautiful, medieval city of York, guests can come back to Holmwood House and relax in the charming garden.

York was one of my favorite cities to visit. The historic area is very compact and can be explored in just a few days. If you are considering a visit to York, I recommend you stay at the charming Holmwood House B&B!
