Tranquility in Tamariu, Costa Brava

Located less than two hours from the bustling city of Barcelona is the sleepy coastal town of Tamariu in the beautiful region of Costa Brava, Spain. A curvy drive is required to reach this Spanish paradise, but the solitude and tranquility you will experience once you get there makes every effort completely worth it! We called Tamariu home for a week, as it was our home base while we explored the surrounding region. While we had many incredible experiences during our time in Costa Brava, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that one of our favorites was coming home to this view everyday!

Where to Stay in Tamariu

Set in a peaceful cove along the Mediterranean coast, Tamariu quickly became one of our favorite places we’ve ever stayed. We’re pretty sure it also had something to do with the incredible beachfront condo we had for our week-long visit. It’s pretty hard to compete with such a beautiful view. Of the time we were ‘home’, we spent a good 75% of it on the terrace overlooking the sea… sangria in hand, of course. Can you blame us?!

Tamariu ApartmentsThis property is managed by Corredor Mató – Real Estate & Property Management. They specialize in short-term and long-term rentals, as well as real estate in the Costa Brava region. Good to know, as we just might be tempted to move here someday! The condo was perfect for our party of four and could have easily fit another couple, as there was an additional bedroom we didn’t even use. Renting a house or condo is a great and efficient way to travel with family or other couples. Our family getaway was a celebration of my father’s milestone birthday and my step-mom’s recent retirement. Like I said, there were many evenings spent on the terrace toasting the good life!

Tamariu costa bravaAs mentioned, the property was plenty big enough for the four of us, including a master suite and two twin bedrooms. The dining room had an amazing view overlooking the terrace and sea, but we much preferred to dine outside with the gentle sea breeze cooling us during the warm summer days!

The kitchen was plenty big and was equipped with everything we needed for enjoying a few meals in. Storage space was plentiful and having a washer was a huge help!

Things to Do in Tamariu

So, besides our awesome accommodation, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Tamariu. It’s one of three coastal towns belonging to the municipality of Palafrugell, the other two being Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc, which we also visited during our visit to Costa Brava. The water was some of the most beautiful we’ve seen in all of our travels. It took a few brave steps to enter the chilly sea, but once we got in, it was heaven on earth!

Tamariu playaTamariu gets a fair amount of day-time visitors during the summer months, especially on the weekends. Though the beach was crowded at times, we never felt as if it was unbearably jam-packed. By evening, the beach became less busy as visitors made their way back to their home base or to the many restaurants lining the wide beachfront promenade.

TamariuWe found Tamariu to be a great home base for exploring Costa Brava, as it was centrally located between many of the towns and attractions we visited during our stay. It’s a peaceful alternative to some of Costa Brava’s larger resort towns, such as Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar. The town is adequately supplied with restaurants, mini-marts, shops, bakeries, and gelato stands. Several larger grocery stores are just a short drive away. Its beach is reason alone to visit, though we recommend you also take a stroll along its scenic coastal path. Scramble over rocks, wander through a seaside forest, and gaze down at the stunning coastline below. For more about this coastal hike and more, check out our post on activities along the coast in Costa Brava! Also be sure to taste the local flavor and indulge in Catalan cuisine in Costa Brava.

tamariu hikeRegardless of where you stay in Costa Brava, you will most likely encounter gorgeous views, either of the sea or of the mountains. Of course, we’re partial to Tamariu, and would go back in a heartbeat. We can wholeheartedly recommend it to those of you looking for tranquility in a sensational setting!

We’d like to thank Corredor Mató – Real Estate & Property Management for providing us with accommodation during our time in Tamariu, along with the Costa Brava Tourism Board (Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona), who provided support during our visit to Costa Brava. As always, our write-ups are an accurate representation of the experiences we had.

what is the best way to get around there? Not sure if I want to rent a car or use other methods?

    • We believe renting a car is the best way to get around the Costa Brava region. This is what we did, so unfortunately I cannot comment on other transportation methods. We didn’t see much in the way of public transport, though you can gather more information about transportation in the area from the local tourism website: https://en.costabrava.org/come/transport. Happy Travels and enjoy your time in Costa Brava! 🙂
