We felt like royalty during our stay at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron.

Although located outside the city walls, Schloss Leopoldskron is just a few minutes from the Old Town of Salzburg.

Not only is the town of Salzburg rich in elegance and history, the hotel itself exudes deep historical roots and marvelous beauty.

You can read all about the hotel’s fascinating history on their website.

The lakefront setting, which sits on 17 acres, is a peaceful retreat offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the distant Hohensalzburg Fortress.

The hotel was originally built in 1736 and you may recognize it as the famed von Trapp house from the 1965 award-winning Sound of Music.

The hotel gardens are nice to wander through any time of day, but especially as the sun is setting over the lake.

We stayed in one of the 55 rooms located in the newly renovated Meierhof building, pictured above.

These former administration offices at the Schloss were just recently converted (February 2014) into charming boutique guestrooms.

We stayed in one of the premium double rooms, which offered serene views of the lake.

The Meierhof also offers 3 ‘Sound of Music’ themed superior double rooms for those die-hard fans of the famed musical!
The rooms reflect the movie’s design, colors, and mood, but in a contemporary interpretation.

Sam was quite impressed with the rotating tv stand in our room, which allows guests to enjoy the television from both the sitting area and bedroom.

I really enjoyed the fresh orchids in our room.

Until mid-2013, only guests affiliated with Salzburg Global Seminar were invited to stay at the hotel. The former private institution is now a stunning hotel and does whatever it takes to ensure guests visiting from all corners of the globe experience outstanding comfort and hospitality.

The front desk staff was extremely helpful providing us with recommendations of things to see and do in the city, in addition to suggesting places to eat.

Breakfast is served each morning in the elegant halls of the Schloss.

DSC_6601

This was absolutely the most elegant place I have ever eaten breakfast!

A full breakfast buffet is offered to all guests and is included in the room rate.

All guests also receive a complimentary welcome drink from the Weiherweit restaurant upon arrival. Guests can park at the hotel free of charge and bicycles are also available for use, which we would have taken advantage of if the weather had looked a little more promising during our visit.

We spent some time exploring the beautiful interior of the hotel.

The library is certainly one room within the Schloss you do not want to miss!
