A week is barely enough time to get a flavor of the west’s most “western” town and leave you thinking about when you can come back for another visit. We packed our week full of desert adventures and culinary delights and can’t wait to get back to explore even more!
We checked into Scottsdale Camelback Resort, where we would call “home” for the week.
The villas were cozy with all of the amenities you would want and need.
Your trip should definitely include a visit to Old Town, a shining example of why this city is the “West’s Most Western Town.” With original buildings dating back to the late 1800′s to the early 1900′s, this is where is all began.
Although we didn’t have too much time to wander around the shops, restaurants and boutiques that lined the many streets that make up Old Town, I definitely recommend a visit to this charming part of town!
The Desert Botanic Garden is an attraction not to be missed, although it’s technically not in Scottsdale, but rather in the neighboring city of Phoenix.
Architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home built in the late 30’s, known as Taliesin West, can be found at the foothills of the McDowell Mountains.
There are a multitude of tour options ranging from 1-3 hours. We took the 90-minute Insights Tour, which is Taliesin West’s Signature Tour. Throughout the tour, visitors learn to appreciate Wrights’ ability to blend the outside world with the inside.
A great way to explore the Sonoran Desert from above is to embark on a hot air balloon ride with Rainbow Ryders.
We spent about an hour in the air, traveling at a max speed of 13 mph, at a cruising altitude of 4000 feet. It was such a peaceful and serene experience.
Now, if you’re looking for a fast, dirty, and thrilling journey through the Sonoran desert, consider a tour with Green Zebra Adventures!
Tie on your bandana and buckle your seat belt, as you zip through the desert in your Tomcar, which gets its origins from a fast, tough, off road military vehicle!
We imagine after all of the fun and adventure, you’ll need to satisfy your hunger! Be sure not to miss the Food Truck Caravan.
Every Saturday night from 6:30-10:30 pm at 5th Ave & Goldwater, locals and visitors alike gather for great food, live music, and good ol’ community fun! On any given Saturday you will find up to 15 trucks gathered caravan-style to provide patrons with a variety of flavors and cuisine types.
