Although we only had one day in Munich, we made time to visit the world famous beer hall Hofbräuhaus for a bite and a (few) brews!

Visitors from all over the world gather under the intricately painted ceilings at the long wooden tables to eat hearty German food and drink liter-steins of world famous Hofbräuhaus beer!

There is ample seating both inside and out…

Regulars to the world famous brewery can reserve a beer mug locker.

Hofbräuhaus serves 3 main types of beer- Dark Beer (the origin of Bavarian beer), Original (a refreshing, fine bitter), and Münchner Weisse (a sparkling, tingling, refreshing beer).

We both enjoyed a variation of the traditional beer by ordering a refreshing radler (beer + lemonade). Mine was made with the original beer and Sam tried his with the dark.

And what would a trip to Germany be without a humongous pretzel to go with your beer?!

Munich (161)

Although the pretzel and beer pretty much filled me up, I had to try the fresh mushrooms in herb cream sauce with a bread dumpling, although I certainly couldn’t finish all of it. We were barely a day into our 6-week European adventure and I felt like I had already gained a few pounds!

Sam went for the traditional sausage and sauerkraut.

As we drank our beers, ate traditional German food, and listened to the Oompah band, we truly felt that we had arrived… in Germany!

Some may consider it a tourist trap, but I definitely feel that Hofbräuhaus is well worth a stop during your next visit to Munich! It’s an experience you won’t soon forget!

Check out a quick video of how we spent our jam-packed day in Munich:

  1. Wow! What a find. It may be touristy but it seems like a great place to try some good brews and awesome food. The radler sounds interesting though. Lemonade and Beer? I’m game to try it. 🙂

  2. I felt the same way about eating in Salzburg- I loved the food but who would think that order sausages would be the “lighter”route?
